CWEB - Very high levels of folate can double autism risk, and high levels of folate and B12 can increase the risk 17.6 times, Johns Hopkins University researchers said. The study has not been peer-reviewed.Autism diagnoses have skyrocketed mostly because things that were previously called other things have been reclassified as other types of autism after they redefined autism as a spectrum ranging from traditional "autism" (no verbal skills, mostly trapped in your own mind) to traditional " just a little bit weird" (now classified as high-functioning autistic, "Aspergers," etc). However, that can't account for all of the rise. Apparently, the first-world obsession with prenatal vitamins and trying to be extra health-conscious is causing it. Women who aren't at risk for vitamin deficiencies in pregnancy have been "taking precautions" and instead of helping the baby, they're overdosing it on specific vitamins and making it autistic.
