The show begins in a courtroom setting with Peter on trial for conspiracy and taking bribes for political gain. Chris Noth who gives an outstanding performance playing Alicia’s husband Peter is another hiccup in her life. As the lawyers fight back and forth to come to a plea deal, there is much anticipation how the outcome of the trial will affect Alicia (Julianna Margulies) life going forward? Does she stand by her husband, or does she divorce him no matter what the consequences?
What is Alicia’s next move? We are thrown back to scenes toward the end of Peter’s trial where Alicia’s mind goes into a throwback, psychotropic state of mind about the men in her life where she was and where she is now. Viewers get the sudden surprise and re- introduction the character “Will” played by Josh Charles, who was Alicia’s first and only real true love. In the scene, Will gives her some good advice and some memories to ponder on. Will Gardner was such a dynamic character on the series, and then he was left for dead, being shot in a courtroom trial in season five. The show seemed to be lost for quite a few episodes after Wills death. It remained stagnant for quite a few episodes until the show came up with some new characters- making them just as chilly and dramatic centering on Alicia’s constant ponder of unsettling decisions.
Alicia falls in love with Jason Peters, her hired private investigator played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, there is never a scene in this series between the two where there is a complete yes or no answer about a committed relationship. The co-creators Robert and Michelle King quote about Alicia- "The victim becomes the victimizer and that is how they envisioned the show."

Peter’s career is over and Eli Gold- Peter’s political consultant, and contriving right-hand man, played by Alan Cumming recommends he throw in the towel and places all his funds in the wind to Alicia, so she can move into politics and regain plan for her political future now that Peter will be out of the picture.
In the end, the three climaxes that end the show, Peter, Jason, and Will. Cleary Alicia moves beyond Peter, gains great strength making personal decisions and becoming more successful in her career. She gains more independence, but loses her female partner in crime Diane Lockhart played by Christine Baranski, gives a stunning performance throughout. The last scene ends with a big slap in the face to Alicia from Diane, as the emotional turmoil being the last straw in Diane's eyes when Alicia uses the defense card with Diane’s husband's testimony of having an affair with the pretty blonde brings her to tears. The camera does a close up her face as she’s holding back the tears, does a sharp turn towards the exit and storms out of the courtroom.
